Alfred J. Encarnacion, of Voorhees, NJ, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, December 10, 2024. He was 76.
Alfred was born in Philadelphia on June 21, 1948 to Alfred Cruz and Martha (Taylor) Encarnacion.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and Master’s degree in English from Temple University and a Master’s degree in creative writing from Clarion University.
Alfred was an accomplished and published writer and poet. His short stories, poems, essays and reviews have appeared in national journals. He is the recipient of an Academy of American Poets Award, the Wilson Foundation Scholarship Award, the Clarion University Creative Writing Contest Prize, a 2009 Poets House (NYC) Scholarship, and in 2015 was nominated for a Pushcart Prize in Poetry. He was the Director of the Stratford Public Library.
He is survived by his sister, Lilyan Encarnacion, of Marlton, NJ and his nephew, Paris Colello of Tullytown, PA.
Services will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 with visitation for family and friends from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Christ the King Catholic Church, 200 Windsor Avenue, Haddonfield, NJ 08033.
All services will be held at the church.
